Menmar – September/ Fereda 2025

Greetings!

Another month, another Menmar Monthly Art! Menmar completes 5 years since the first time I published it, and I’ve been using those illustrations as way for you to get to know more about this universe while I get some other projects done before coming back to it!

The Series is Back! After two years of hiatus, Menmar is running again! Chapter 7 is done, and Chapter 8 is almost complete too, and it’s also available in Portuguese! I’m thrilled beyond measure, for this is the year in which I’ll finish Menmar and get on with other projects that need it to be done first!

The Month of Fereda

The Month of Fereda equals to real-life’s September, being preceded by the Month of Shib and followed by the Month of Meqdez Farhat. It marks the end of Autumn, welcoming the chilly winds that announce Winter is fast approaching.

Fereda means both “Midday” and “Half Year” in Azorian language, thus being the sixth month in the Azorian Calendar; Fereda is also known as the Month of Colours, for it is the month which dyers, weavers and seamstresses work the most. Crimson, green, purple and pearly cockles can be harvested in easier ways due to shore retreats, and they are ritually sacrificed to make the most expensive dyes, which is supervised by a special sect of priests, called Artificiers.

Regular colours, such as ochre, red, black and grey can be made from ash and charcoal, bone dust, palm tree bark, dried and fresh petals mixed with fruit oils or animal fat, lasting for years if well-crafted. Then, it is spread on the chosen fabric and rubbed while immersed on water, diluting the ink and allowing the fabric to completely absorb it.

Afterwards, the lining is hung to dry and threaded, loomed or sewn as desired. The process is the same regardless of fabric or chosen colours.
