Interlude – What I Have Been Up To

Greetings, everyone!

For those that don’t know me yet, I go by the pen name of IridiumArt (or simply Iridium) and I have been around the internet and several social media for a while as a freelancer comic book writer and artist, mainly focused on fantasy art.

Recently, I have been engaged on a few personal projetcts, such as Menmar and Brigadier Bits – the latter has been completed, whereas the former is still ongoing – and collaboration projects like Aylie (Anthology) and a few others I am yet to announce and publish.

What’s Going On?

I’m not someone that posts frequently on social media – I quite frankly feel it is somewhat of a hassle, and quite bothersome, to set strict deadlines for art content, which I barely am able to meet, considering I don’t live fully off my art as I wished to. However, I am creating and producing for my ongoing projects, as announced in January, and I intent on filling this blog and media with as much content as possible on that regard.

Aylie Anthology

Currently, my main focus is on finishing Aylie Anthology; this project was done in collaboration with TibiaTales, and since the site is no longer being used and updated as it was before, I decided to continue with my original plans for the character as a tribute to the beautiful journey I have been with as part of their staff, even if it was for a short time.

The full Anthology, which tells the story of the fairy Aylie, will have three phases: the first and current one, which is based on weekly slices-of-life comic strips, which will be posted in a total of 14 episodes. Then, those will be followed by two special one-shot editions: A Court of Dreams and From Drylands to Lax Wires.

A Court of Dreams was supposed to be a special edition to celebrate Aylie’s birthday, established as June 12th by her creators, and it will be a series focused on two main plotlines: giving old and new followers a quick recap on Aylie’s background and motives and placing the bubbly, pink fairy at the center of a looming threat to the Dream Realm – which might give her the lifetime opportunity of fulfilling a dream of her own.

From Drylands to Lax Wires, on the other hand, will serve as a reminder that Tibia is indeed a game rightfull placed under the Dark Fantasy genre, even if the artwork doesn’t quite show it. The plotlines given by this edition show the brutal differences between Dreams and Nightmares – and what happens when their champions come to a clash. This title was supposed to be a either a December special for TibiaTales to end the year’s activities, or a second June special to celebrate yet another Aylie birthday.

Either way, both will be quite interesting to read, I can assure you all of that. Also, I’ll post several making off posts, showcasing concept arts, ideas and even some thoughts that may have been discarded along the way – I’ll love to leave the “what if” scenarios to your imagination!

La Miseràble

As I announced on this post, La Miseràble will be an one-shot narrative of my beloved character Aurelia Drakul. This one-shot comic book will be divided into five parts, which will be called Acts, to be published weekly in the spam of five weeks.

Those Acts will cover Aurelia’s whole life, from her beginnings to the very end of her days. Yes, there won’t be a follow-up series of her tales, since her Tibia counterpart has been working as somewhat of a tombstone-character for me, for she holds items and written pieces of deceased friends of mine and I feel that her story has gone with them, too.

Like all other stories I write, I’ll be posting the making offs, such as character concepts, a few celebrational artworks (and maybe giving her a gallery of her own here, who knows) and a few curiosites. However, her story is already written and done, and I’ll begin posting on October, preferably on Wednesdays (Wednesday is for Woe), so that you get more content from me over the weeks!

Menmar – Vol. 1 & 2

I have been talking ceaselessly about Menmar these past days; it is, after all, my pride and joy, as I affectionately call it, and my main goal is to finally complete it.

I have been working on the narrative structure again, and new chapters will be back on November, to be posted weekly on Mondays; also, I’ll work on what I called The Definite Editions: those will be Menmar’s chapters divided into four volumes, with the first ones redrawn to match the overall styles, containing character profiles and other flavour info, such as maps, culture and etiquette, stylings and other extra content.

Menmar has been a difficult title for me to work with mostly due to the high standards and expectations I hold for it; I have been working on it for the span of ten(!) years now, and the story has changed a lot since. However, it is my wish to finish it properly, along with the extra after stories I’ll tell. Making offs will also be posted and noted, though there won’t be a lot of it – after all, I am saving most of this content to the Definite Editions, hahaha! Bear with me, please, I have just a few more things to say!

And What About Saoshyant?

Ah, Saoshyant… This is another difficult piece. Like Menmar and La Miseràble, Saoshyant is a very emotional and personal piece to me; it speaks about 21 years of my life (and I’m almost 30 now) and I want to walk you through it the best way I can.

Recently, I was talking to an old friend, who was one of the most loyal readers of the first version of those tales, and I realized that my first pitch for Saoshyant may be going in the wrong direction. As I am writing this post, I realized I may need to conscript a few beta readers to vote on which pilot will be the best course of action for me to take.

One thing is certain: like Menmar and Behógar Bradana, it is going to be a large story, and it will be my largest work to be sure. I’ll run the two scenarios by a few people first, and then I’ll make my final choices. I have big plans for this story, and I hope you’ll be walking with me all the way!
